On March 15, 2023, Sotheby's had the opportunity to present the Robert and Helga Ehret Collection. This couple of collectors is mainly interested in the experiments of modernity, and more particularly in the outbursts of the German avant-garde. Works by artists ranging from Edgar Degas and Ernst Wilhelm Nay to Lyonel Feininger and Emil Nolde were on show. The collection included a work by Franz Marc, a rarity in France, which reveals the spirit of refinement and daring that led the couple to build the collection. This 1911 work, Stier (Bull), inspired the name of the Blaue Reiter movement created the same year.
