Sotheby’s returned to in-person sales with a record-breaking auction at their New Bond Street galleries, presented in partnership with Celine. It featured artists such as Lucian Freud, Cy Twombly, young painter Flora Yukhnovitch and her stunning abstract painting I’ll Have What She’s Having, Gerhard Richter and three of his abstracts sold £9,619,800, £7,896,300 and £5,943,000, emerging talents from across the world who tripled and even quadrupled their estimate, and Banksy’s infamous Love is the Bin.
After a ten-minute chase by nine bidders, it tripled its £6 million and went under the hammer for £18,582,000.
At the end of the evening, Sotheby’s had record-breaking results and made a total of £65,9 million.
