A New York Mansion Once Owned by Gianni Versace Asks $70 Million

A New York mansion formerly owned by Gianni Versace, eponymous designer of the haute couture house launched in 1978, has just been put up for sale by Nikki Field and her daughter Amanda Field Jordan from Sotheby's International Realty. This 17-room mansion, bought in 1995 by the fashion designer for $7.5 million, is coming on the market for $70 million.

The sellers, Thomas Sandell and his wife Ximena Sandell, Swedes aged 61 and 46, bought the property from the Versace family in 2005 for $30 million.

This neoclassical mansion of approximately 1320 sq. m built on six levels is located on East 64th Street in the very chic Upper East Side, in the immediate vicinity of Central Park. The first four levels, decorated in an Italian Baroque style, are composed of marble floors, classical columns, mosaics, painted ceilings and walls... The Sandells, great admirers of Gianni Versace, pursued restorations and renovations with a team of artists and artisans in order to honor the magnificent heritage left by the couturier, as evidenced by the 19th century panels on the ceiling of the great hall which come from a Florentine palace. The upper two floors have been redesigned. The fifth floor has a Moroccan-style media room as well as a game room with billiards and arcade games.

The property also has a roof deck with a gazebo and it can be configured with up to nine bedrooms.

The property has been on the market as a rental in recent years for up to $100,000 per month. They have also put up for sale a 4-hectare plot of land located on the very coveted Meadow Lane in Southampton for $75 million.
