Princess Niloufar Pahlavi Collection, a Home by Jacques Grange

On October 14th in Paris, Sotheby’s will present the exceptional sale of H.R.H. Princess Niloufar Pahlavi’s collection, a rare and poetic ensemble curated by Jacques Grange, the legendary decorator and close friend of the Imperial dynasty for more than fifty years. This auction celebrates the art of living and timeless elegance of a distinguished figure of high society, within a Parisian hôtel particulier of remarkable beauty.
A niece by marriage to His Majesty the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Princess Niloufar Pahlavi assembled over time an eclectic and sensitive collection reflecting her refined personality. It was housed in a discreet Parisian mansion, hidden within a luxuriant garden. This unique residence, imbued with intimacy and poetry, was first decorated by the iconic Renzo Mongiardino in the late 1970s before Jacques Grange reimagined its atmosphere in the early 2000s.
In this light-filled home, open to nature, two living rooms engage in dialogue: one immersed in the greenery, the other seemingly suspended among the leaves. Jacques Grange orchestrates a subtle harmony between eras and styles a Diego Giacometti coffee table stands beside Tibetan Buddhas, while works by Christo, Tal Coat, and Alain Jacquet converse with the furniture of Garouste and Bonetti and the lighting of Maison Perzel.
The sale also offers a rare opportunity to acquire pieces designed by these two great decorators: Renzo Mongiardino’s trompe-l’œil tables and bookcases, as well as Jacques Grange’s remarkable mica coffee table and his dining table in shagreen and palm wood. Completing the ensemble are Princess Niloufar Pahlavi’s own creations, elegant candelabra and jewellery inspired by her garden and travels, both playful and poetic.
This auction embodies a certain French art de vivre, blending refinement, freedom, and artistic sensitivity. Through the dialogue between two legendary decorators and the inspiring personality of Princess Niloufar Pahlavi, it conveys a vision of luxury defined by discretion and harmony with nature.
